In May, 16 Turkish judges and public prosecutors visited the Netherlands in view of the prevention of human trafficking and the protection of victims in Turkey through a human rights-based approach. The delegation met with Eurojust, Dutch ngo Comensha, the National Rapporteur on Trafficking in Human Beings, the Public Prosecution Office and IOM.
The visit is part of a counter-trafficking project funded by the EU and co-funded by the Turkish Government.
Aim of the visit was to seek support for Turkey’s efforts in combatting trafficking in human beings, in investigating and prosecuting the trafficking in human beings and the smuggling of migrants. On 2 May 2016 Turkey ratified the Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings.
The visit, organized by IOM Turkey and IOM the Netherlands enabled the judges and prosecutors to learn and observe practices in this field and strengthen the bilateral relations between Turkey and Netherlands.
