Mr. G.B. was entitled to benefit from a reintegration program
that was administered by IOM Sri Lanka and offered to all Sri
Lankan’s who wanted to return from Europe.
G.B. developed his business plan with a return counsellor in
The Hague.
He had been living in the Netherlands for 10 years but did not
succeed in obtaining a permit to stay and because things did not
work out the way he had hoped for he finally decided to return to
Sri Lanka. In the Netherlands his initial idea was to cultivate
mushrooms.
From his grant he decided to buy a freezer and some other
items he considered necessary for his mushroom business. Despite
his enthusiasm and due to the lack of sufficient knowledge and
experience on how to grow mushrooms, his business failed to
succeed.
Together they now run a successful grocery store and own a
small retail business. Additionally, they earn money from a store
they let for rent and which is run by relatives.
