In Afghanistan Mr Roshangar worked as a law professor for many years. But his diplomas are not valid in the Netherlands, as a result of which he cannot exercise his function here. Via IOM he participated in the TRQN project, which offered him a chance to use his expertise in his country of origin.
It was an intensive time during which Mr Roshangar has been able to mean a lot for the university. Mr Roshangar: ‘The teachers at the law faculty are all still young and have a low academic rank. I gave lectures on academic standards and values and trained the teachers individually. I also attended their lessons to check the teaching procedures.’ Although this was already a full day's work as such, this was not all. ‘For a number of subjects there were still vacancies. Ultimately I decided to give these subjects myself. With books from the library I was preparing the lectures till late in the evening. Fortunately I received many enthusiastic reactions afterwards.’
The project was a great success for both Mr Roshangar and the university of Herat The director was even so enthusiastic about him that he has approached IOM for a follow-up project with Mr Roshangar. Therefore he will soon leave again for Herat for three months. ‘Herat is the region where I was born and bred. I want to do everything I can to improve the situation there.’
