MIDA Ghana Health III Project

The objective of the MIDA Ghana Health III Project is to contribute to the development of human resources in the health sector in Ghana.

This is realized in two ways. On the one hand, Ghanaian and other African migrants in EU countries can transfer knowledge, skills and experience through temporary assignments to Ghana. On the other hand, health workers from Ghana have the opportunity to do specialized training at health care institutions in the Netherlands.

The project lasts from April 2008 untill March 2012 and is implemented by IOM in close cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Ghana, the Netherlands embassy in Ghana and Ghanian diaspora groups in Europe. Until now IOM has facilitated over 200 temporary assignments in Ghana. The beneficiary hospitals and health institutions in Ghana are positive about the impact of the knowledge transfer by the Ghanaian diaspora. The Ministry of Health also expressed its appreciation of the project. MIDA Ghana is seen as an important project that links the Ghanaian diaspora to the development of Ghana and as it seeks to contribute the health sector in Ghana in the area of capacity building for health personnel to promote effective health care delivery.
