May 15 - First training mission from the Netherlands started in Praia
Residing for over 20 years in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, Mr. Fernando Ortet did not think twice when it was proposed to him to apply his deep knowledge of information and communication technologies (ICT) for the development of Cape Verde.
Selected by the Laboratório de Engenharia Civil/Civil Engineering
Laboratory of Cape Verde, the training mission Mr Ortet participated in
allowed him to apply the professional expertise and academic training
obtained in the Netherlands. It was also a chance to go back to Cape Verde
and develop contacts with a view to preparing a permanent return.
During
the final stages of his training mission, which was extended for one
additional week at the request of the benefitting entity, Mr. Ortet
highlighted the importance of the project and demonstrated interest in
collaborating with more initiatives as there is a large demand for "training
and capacity-building in ICT in Africa".
Besides participating in the training mission, Mr. Fernando Ortet has
also participated in a networking mission for the creation of a business in
the capital Praia, to be managed by members of the Cape Verdean diaspora in
the Netherlands.
