The event offers a regional forum for delegates to share information about trafficking in their countries and the difficulties that they face in the investigation and prosecution of the crime.
The objective is to develop strategies to prevent trafficking and prosecute traffickers through regional cooperation, and to explore possible areas of cross border co-operation.
Afghanistan is particularly vulnerable to human trafficking, as a result of more than two decades of conflict, the subsequent loss of lives and livelihoods, prolonged economic instability, insecurity and often porous borders with six neighbouring countries.
In Afghanistan, IOM works closely with the government, in line with the Afghan National Development Strategy (ANDS), to build the capacity of Afghan institutions to manage migration and combat human trafficking.
