IOM’s Migration Challenges Highlighted at New Years Reception

IOM The Hague’s New Years Reception on 4 February was well attended by representatives from Embassies, Consulates and the Dutch government.
Eugenio Ambrosi, Regional Director of IOM’s Regional Office for the EU, Norway and Switzerland, highlighted IOM’s role in Europe’s many current migration challenges.

IOM estimates that 55,528 migrants and refugees crossed the Mediterranean to enter Europe during the first 28 days of 2016 - a rate of nearly 2,000 per day.

The focus in the work of IOM is offering support to migrants at the request of governments.
Migration is a cross border movement of persons that deserves to take place in dignity and in the interest of all involved: the migrant, countries of origin and the host communities.
