"Train the Trainer"

Under the NLCO-III and CO-Nareis project, a global network of fourteen IOM trainers provide pre-departure cultural orientation to help migrants to prepare for their future in the Netherlands.
The 2014 Train the Trainer meeting took place from the 27th to the 31th January in the Hague to launch the two projects. Trainers from Colombia, Egypt, Kenia, Lebanon and Thailand received intensive in-house training on the Dutch curriculum and participated in visits to resettled refugees and Dutch stakeholders including IND, Vluchtelingenwerk, COA and UAF. Through experiential learning, the trainers explored the Netherlands as a migrant would and shared best practices based on their extensive training experience. Topics of great discussion over the four days included biking culture in the Netherlands, the legal status of polygamy, inter-city train etiquette and how to tailor the training sessions to meet the needs of different migrants.
