MIGRATION FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL
IOM - the International Organisation for Migration - provides assistance to migrants the world over.
In the Netherlands, IOM is involved in assisting migrants when entering and departing from the Netherlands, assisting their reintegration in their country of origin, arranging temporary secondment to help reconstruction in the countries of origin. Its activities also focus on labour migration, migration and health and combating human trafficking.
Migrants may seek the assistance of IOM for matters such as:
- Advice regarding voluntary return to their country of origin
- Support when returning to the country of origin
- Mediation regarding voluntary return from aliens' detention
- Reintegration support in the country of origin (financial and/or other services)
- Temporary secondments, in order to contribute to the development of the country of origin
- Utilisation of professional skills in the reconstruction of the country of origin
- Reception and guidance within the context of family reunification and resettled refugees to the Netherlands
- Making travel arrangements when resettling in a third country, assuming admission criteria are met
- Travel assistance at Schiphol Airport and from airports in the transit and destination countries
IOM, whose headquarters is located in Geneva, was established in 1951 and represents more than 120 member states worldwide. IOM is an independent international organisation and its office in the Netherlands forms part of a worldwide network that converts jointly-held knowledge in the field of migration into practical programmes.
