Diaspora for Development of Cape Verde

Informatie over dit project is alleen in het Engels beschikbaar.

DIAS DE Cabo Verde is a project based on the active collaboration of the diaspora for the development of Cape Verde, promoted by the Instituto das Comunidades de Cabo Verde (IC) and co-financed by the European Commission and by the Portuguese Government. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the implementing partner of the project. The project started in 2008 and ended in December 2009.

Projects Objectives

The project aimed at strengthening the capacity of key development sectors in Cape Verde, through the active engagement of diaspora professionals residing and working in Portugal, Italy and The Netherlands. The project also contributed to tightening diaspora transnational linkages and reinforcing the communication network between diaspora members and institutional entities in Cape Verde.

The initiative gave diaspora members concrete possibilities to be actively engaged in the development of their country of origin by transferring their skills and experience to professionals in Cape Verde and by developing entrepreneurial projects with Cape Verdean and host countries' communities and partners.

Results

During the project IOM facilitated 29 training missions carried out by Cape Verdean diaspora professionals. Nineteen missions were conducted by Cape Verdeans from Portugal, eight from the Netherlands and two from Italy. In addition IOM assisted nine network missions carried out by Cape Verdean entrepreneurs to explore opportunities for investment in Cape Verde. Three of these missions came from the Netherlands. IOM is currently working on a follow up DIAS project.

In the Netherlands the project was carried out in close cooperation with Avanco Foundation, Intercambios and the Cape Verdean Consulate.
